How To Pull Off NYFWM’s Biggest Trend

Whether you’re fully invested in runway shows or street style, one cohesive trend emerged during last week’s New York Fashion Week: Men’s.  It was the loose silhouette.  Observer recently published a piece titled “Wide Boys: The New Silhouette in Menswear”.  The New York Times has noted that wide-leg trousers were one of the five most surprising trends from NYFWM.  A loose silhouette is slowly making a comeback in men’s fashion, and soon, you’ll be left out if you aren’t on board.

Rocking a loose silhouette is all about playing with proportion.  If your clothes are too big all over, you’ll look like you’re in your pajamas.  While it may seem easy to do, there’s a line between loose and sloppy.

If you’re new to the loose silhouette movement, go for a wider, relaxed pant.  However, keep the layers above your waist slim with shirts like our ¾ sleeve Raglan Baseball Longline Shirts or Button Down Side Zip Plaid Shirts.  Allow the pants an opportunity to take center stage.

If you’re a fashion daredevil, opt for a loose open cardigan or jacket.  Pair this with a slim-fitting shirt and wide leg pants.

The objective here is to showcase a chic version of comfort dressing.  It’s not about wearing things that are baggy or sagging. Think loose and flowing-not big. These clothes still fit. It’s just that their proportions have been exaggerated for a high-fashion take on loosening up.

If you’re not ready to nail it just yet, don’t worry.  This is a fall/winter look.  You’ve got a little bit of time to prepare.  But don’t be surprised when your IG feed is flooded with guys in relaxed jeans and trousers this September.
